Alexander’s first thematic 5k, the Electric Run!

The start of the Electric Run

Overall the Electric Run felt more like a social gathering than a “race”. It’s a great time, with multiple sections, each section being designed by a different artist. There are some really awesome light effects, and since it’s ran in the dark, the colors really pop. I started out attempting to run like anyone else, but lugging a giant camera around my neck proved to be quite the terrible idea. While I wish I could have ran faster/longer, I ultimately had to go back to walking about half way through. At which point I realized that I should have been walking the whole way.

Shortly after I decided to walk instead of run it began to rain, which definitely helped cool me down. Unfortunately this resulted in me forgetting that I wanted to take photos, I’m sure I missed at least 3 good photos as a result. But soon I came across some amazing lasers and noticed the rain was creating some really cool effects. This was more than enough to remind me of my ridiculously heavy camera sitting around my neck.  I must say, as cool as the photo is below, it’s not even a fraction of how awesome this was in person. It was  closer to something out of a runner’s dream. I must admit, I would be more inclined to run 5k’s more often if they were all like the electric run. The visuals, and music definitely have a nice distracting property about them, which inspires you to want to see more, instead of running, you’re just wanting to go on and see what else lies beyond the next corner.

At the end of the day running a 5k might not be for everyone, but the electric run is great for those of you who might want to get back into being healthy, or want to experience something completely new. In the end, the Electric Run is something I believe everyone will be happy to have experienced at least once… unless you have epilepsy, in which case I recommend you sit this one out.
